Coping with Anxiety at Christmas

Is Christmas a difficult time for you?

Christmas is a season of goodwill, a time when we can stop to think about others and spend some quality time with our loved ones. It can be an exciting time and one where we can slow down a bit and enjoy the holidays.

But for many Christmas also comes with extra responsibilities and extra stress whether that is to do with financial pressure or just trying to fit everything in when you already have limited time. All these extra pressures can affect our mental health in so many different ways.

This time of year may set off some emotional triggers for you perhaps from things you’ve experienced in the past. Or it may seem like everyone around you is happy and excited about Christmas and that makes you feel even lonelier because you don’t feel that way at all.

It’s common that feelings of loneliness rise at this time of year but the important thing to know is that you are not alone. Many people feel exactly the same way, but don’t talk about it and bottle these feelings up instead.

You may feel some social anxiety at this time of year. Christmas and New Year inevitably mean more socialising with work colleagues, friends and family. For many, just the thought of this creates feelings of anxiety, but the good news there are ways to help you cope with these anxious feelings and stress at Christmas.

How can Hypnosis help you to cope

Anxiety is a learned subconscious reaction to an external trigger, either in your environment or in your own mind. Symptoms of anxiety can include shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea and shaking to name a few.

Correctly structured hypnosis can help you to break mental habits and thought patterns that can trigger feelings of panic or anxiety so you are better able to deal with stressful situations in a more positive way.

You may not even know what these external or internal “triggers” are, and you may be unsure of the reason why you feel the way you do. Hypnosis can help you identify these triggers, reframe and replace them with more positive ways.

With hypnosis you have the power to:

  • Regain control from anxious negative thoughts and feelings
  • Reduce stress and worry by using the latest hypnosis techniques
  • Consciously recognise your stressors enabling you to let go of what doesn’t matter allowing your mind and body some recovery time
  • Develop lifetime habits, enabling you to become much calmer and more resilient to life events and challenges
  • Focus your energy on what’s really important in the present moment

So what exactly is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness that everyone experiences on a regular basis. It’s a trace like state, similar to when you daydream or just before you go to sleep, and before you start to wake up from sleep for example. You are in full control and are alert to the hypnotic suggestions experienced whilst in a hypnotic trance. Just like when you are on automatic pilot when driving for example you can bring yourself out of this trance at any time. You are in full control at all times.
